The condemned Hindus were publicly burned at the stake in the square outside the Sé Cathedral in batches during ceremonies known as auto da fé (Portuguese: act of faith).
Those who confessed to their accused heresy would be strangled prior to the burning.

Among those said to have been persecuted by the Portuguese were Hindus, Jews (including some who had fled the Inquisition in Iberia), and Christians. I can only assume that a few Muslims must have been as well, given the length of time it went on and that it happened in South Asia.
